Mike Scott named assistant Cross Country, Track & Field coach at Ohio Northern

ADA —  Mike Scott has been named an assistant coach with the men's and women's cross country and track & field programs at Ohio Northern University.

Scott comes to ONU after a two-year stint as an assistant coach at the University of Central Missouri in 2007 and 2008.

He has also served as head men's track & field coach at Southern Boone County (Mo.) HS and was an assistant coach for track & field for Rock Bridge HS in Columbia, Mo.

Jason Maus named head Men's & Women's Cross Country, Track & Field coach

ADA — Jason Maus has been named head track and field and cross country coach for the men's and women's programs at Ohio Northern.

He spent the previous seven seasons as the assistant coach for Distance & Mid-Distance at ONU and was the recruiting coordinator.

Men's and Women's Track & Field teams earn All-Academic awards

ADA — The Ohio Northern men's and women's track & field teams have both been named to the 2009 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division III All-Academic Track and Field Teams.

The selection of the All-Academic Indoor and Outdoor Scholar Teams of the Year award is based on a combination of academic and athletic achievements.

In order to be worthy of a nomination, a team must have a minimum 3.1 cumulative grade point average.

ADA — Junior Joe Amstutz and sophomore Shane Huntley have both been selected to the 2009 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division III Men’s All-Academic Track and Field Team.

Both men most recently represented Ohio Northern at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships as members of the 4x400-meter relay team.

Amstutz, from Bluffton, Ohio, is earning his second academic award of the season, as he was also named Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference.

Thomas Adam named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV in Track & Field

ADA — Ohio Northern senior Thomas Adam (Cuyahoga Falls/Walsh Jesuit) was named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV for track & field/cross country in voting conducted by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Adam, a mechanical engineering major, is a First Team honoree and will now be placed on the Acaemic All-America ballot.

The senior has enjoyed a spectacular four-year career as a Polar Bear.

MARIETTA - Three-time national champion and eight-time All-American Jimmy O'Brien led the Ohio Northern track & field team on Day 1 of the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Thursday by advancing to Saturday's 1,500-meter run final.

ADA — Senior three-time national champion and eight-time All-American Jimmy O'Brien has been named the Great Lakes Region Men's Track Athlete of the Year for outdoor track, while assistant coach Jason Maus has been named the Great Lakes Region Men's Assistant Coach of the Year.

O'Brien also earned the same award for indoor track earlier in the season as well as last season.

ADA - The Ohio Northern track & field teams will be sending one female participant and eight male participants to compete in the 2009 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Marietta this Thursday through Saturday.
