Individual Leadership Development

Leaders’ Council offers individual leadership development programs throughout the year that are open to all students. These workshops include topics such as leadership styles, communication styles and personal goal setting skills. Please see the Leaders’ Council Calendar on the main page for upcoming individual leadership workshops. Also, if you have a suggestion for an individual leadership development topic, please e-mail Leaders’ Council at leaderscouncil@onu.edu The Leadership Experience

In addition to individual workshops, Leaders’ Council also offers leadership series, which take place over the course of several weeks or months. These leadership series focus on numerous leadership components that include leadership behaviors, styles and qualities. Due to their length, the leadership series allow for more discussion and an in-depth look at different leadership topics. The first leadership series, The Leadership Experience, was first offered during the 2008-09 academic year and is now being offered on a permanent basis.  Two additional leadership series are planned for the 2009-10 academic year. For detailed information about the series and when they are offered, please see below.

The Leadership Experience

The Leadership Experience, or LX, is a five session, interactive experience in which ten to fifteen students will discover their personal leadership potential and develop a leadership vision. The first session will begin with a SWOT and DISC analysis and reflection, which will later connect to leadership behaviors, inspirational endeavors and the proponents of effective action plans. Participation will not be based on prior leadership experience; rather, it will aim to attract young or novice students with a propensity for futures in leadership roles.

Participation in LX is open to all students and is based on faculty- student- or self-nomination. Any student interested in participating in LX is encouraged to email Leaders’ Council at leaderscouncil@onu.edu for a self-nomination form.

The Leadership Experience is offered once during each academic quarter and occurs over a five-week period, one 90-minute session per week. Exact days and times are based on the schedule of each participant and are not determined until all participants are selected. The approximate schedule is below:

Fall Quarter:     Week 5 – 9   (Nominations due prior to Week 3 of Fall Quarter)
Winter Quarter:     Week 2 – 6   (Nominations due prior to Week 9 of Fall Quarter)
Spring Quarter:     Week 2 – 6   (Nominations due prior to Week 9 of Winter Quarter)
