ONU Baja Team Ranks 17th at Regional Competition

Ohio Northern University’s Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Baja team placed 17th overall at the regional Baja SAE® competition held June 11-14. The team also took 9th in the endurance portion of the competition. 100 teams traveled from across the globe, including the United States, Canada, North Korea, El Salvador and Mexico to Burlington, Wis., for the event.

Technological Studies Teams Garner Gold, Silver at National Robotics Challenge

Ohio Northern University's Department of Technological Studies teams garnered four awards, including a gold award, at the National Robotics Challenge in Marion, Ohio, on April 17-18.

ONU sent six teams and 21 students to the competition. The team of Rob Hradek, Wooster, Ohio; Scott Nemeth, Westlake, Ohio; Courtney Johnson, Fremont, Ohio; Katie Wade, Ijamsville, Md., Jose Guzman, Lima, Ohio; and Eric Gray, North Fairfield, Ohio, won a gold award in workcell animation for its ice cream serving machine. The team also won the people's choice award and a $500 prize.

DELMIA Customer Conference

Several technological studies students represented ONU at the North American DELMIA Customer Conference in Detroit on Oct. 8, 2008. Doug Vorhees, a senior from Celina, Ohio; Jacob Ryan, a senior from Hillsboro, Ohio; Scott Nemeth, a senior from Westlake, Ohio; Rob Hradek, a senior from Wooster, Ohio; and professor Paul Nutter presented class curriculum and projects with industrial companies to educators from around the country, and also provided a display of the program at ONU for the user companies attending the conference.

Department of technological studies receives $6,000 educational grant

Dr. David Rouch, chairman of the Ohio Northern University Department of Technological Studies, is the recipient of a Solid Works STEM Education Grant, which will provide software valued at $6,000.

Solid Works is a leader in three-dimensional computer-aided drafting (CAD) technology and high-performance software. Software received from the grant includes a copy of the Solid Works Student Edition with COSMOS design validation curriculum.

Rudolph Foods awards ONU grant for research project

Ohio Northern University, has been awarded a $50,622 grant from Rudolph Foods of Lima, Ohio to fund a summer research project entitled, "Vision Driven Robotic Processing for the Pork Skin Processing Industry."

ONU Technological Studies teams win 2007 Robot of the Year, two gold and one silver award in national competition

Ohio Northern University Technological Studies teams captured two gold awards, one silver award and the "2007 Robot of the year award" at the National Robotics Challenge held at The Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Marion on March 9-10.

ONU garnered the 2007 Robot of the Year," the highest award at the competition after designing, building and programming a manufactured work cell consisting of a KUKA industrial robot, a plastic injection molder and several applied control systems.

ONU captures first place at National Association of Industrial Technology conference

Ohio Northern University garnered first place for "Best Electronics and Controls" at the National Association of Industrial Technology (NAIT) national conference in Cleveland on Nov. 16 - 17.

Fifteen institutions competed to create autonomous robots to accomplish a search and rescue task. The robots navigated a course by following a conductive tape on the competition surface, located an object to be rescued (a predefined 8-inch metal conduit), picked up the object and carried it across the finish line.

Norm Rex Named Distinguished Citizen of the Year
