Softball to open 2010 season March 1 at NTC Games in Clermont, Fla.

ADA —  The Ohio Northern softball team will get its 2010 schedule underway March 1 at the National Training Center Games in Clermont, Fla.

The Polar Bears are coming off their best season in program history in 2009, when they went 39-6, were ranked No. 6 nationally, won the Ohio Athletic Conference Regular Season and Tournament titles and advanced to the NCAA Division III World Series.

Ohio Northern receives Central Region Coaching Staff of the Year honors

ADA — The Ohio Northern coaching staff was named the Central Region Coaching Staff of the Year by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

Head coach Annette Shepherd and assistant coaches Jeremy Shepherd, Les Bowman and Jamie Snee guided the Polar Bears to a 39-6 record and a trip to the NCAA Division III World Series in Montclair, N.J.

Junior All-American Liz Decima a candidate for Collegiate Women's Sports Awards Division III Athlete of the Year

ADA — Ohio Northern junior All-American Liz Decima (Freedom, Pa./Ambridge) has been nominated as a candidate for the Collegiate Women's Sports Awards 2008-2009 Division III Athlete of the Year.

Decima, a shortstop on Ohio Northern's No. 4-ranked softball team, is one of 11 finalists for the award, which will be announced June 22 at Columbia University in New York City.

She represents the sport of softball and was nominated as the top athlete in her sport by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

Goubeaux, Decima, Salay named Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference

Three student/athletes on the No. 4-ranked Ohio Northern softball team (39-6 overall, 16-2 OAC) were named Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference for 2009 in voting conducted by the league’s 10 faculty advisors.

Senior Danielle Goubeaux (Coldwater) and juniors Liz Decima (Freedom, Pa./Ambridge) and Katie Salay (Brecksville/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) were all named Academic All-OAC for 2009.

All three women are making their first appearances on the Academic All-OAC squad.

ADA — Ohio Northern senior Danielle Goubeaux (Coldwater) was named to the NCAA III Softball Championships All-Tournament Team for her efforts in the 2009 NCAA Championships at Montclair, N.J.

Goubeaux led the No. 4-ranked Polar Bears by batting .667 (4 for 6) during Ohio Northern's two games.

Liz Decima named Louisville Slugger/NFCA First Team All-America in softball for 2009

MONTCLAIR, N.J. — Ohio Northern junior Liz Decima (Freedom, Pa./Ambridge) was named a Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association First Team All-American in softball for 2009 at the NCAA III Championships banquet Thursday night at Montclair State University.

Decima, a First Team All-Region honoree and the Ohio Athletic Conference Player of the Year, joins teammate Tina Mangola as an All-America honoree.
