Professor Receives National Recognition from Kappa Epsilon

Kim Broedel-Zaugg, Ohio Northern University professor of pharmacy practice, received the 2008-09 Outstanding Advisor award at the Kappa Epsilon (KE) 47th National Convention in Indianapolis, Ind., held Aug. 5-9, 2009.

Pharmacy Professor Elected to Position in APhA

Kristen Finley, an assistant professor of pharmacy practice at Ohio Northern University, has been elected clinical/pharmacotherapeutic member-at-large for the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) under their Academy of Pharmacy Practice and Management (APPM) section.

Finley will be inducted into the two-year position at the annual APhA meeting in Washington, D.C., in March 2010.

APhA-ASP Chapter Wins National Award

Ohio Northern University's American Pharmacist Association Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) chapter won the 2008 National Patient Care Award in the Heartburn Awareness Challenge at the annual APhA national conference in San Antonio, Texas, on April 3-4.

ONU captured top honors against 69 APhA-ASP pharmacy chapters competing in a patient care project. The award is based on originality, level of student participation, level of collaboration with other campus organizations and overall impact of heartburn education on the public health of the local community.

Professors Receive Certification

Karen Kier, BSPH '82, Ph.D., professor of clinical pharmacy, has earned the designation of Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) from the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialists. This is pharmacy's highest credential in the practice of pharmacotherapy.

Through board certification, pharmacotherapy specialists demonstrate a defined level of education and training, as well as mastery of the knowledge and skills necessary to meet the public's demand for expert pharmaceutical care.
