Overview

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers a variety of courses for both non-science and science majors. Students may major in Chemistry, Biochemistry or Medicinal Chemistry. Depending on the choice of courses, students may work toward a B.S. or a B.A. degree; the department offers both a basic program and an ACS approved program in Chemistry and Biochemistry. Students graduating from the department are highly successful in entering a variety of career paths such as medicine, research, industry, forensics, environmental science or teaching. Students majoring in other fields such as physics, biology or pharmacy can earn a minor in chemistry.

$5 Million Pledge for Facilities

Ohio Northern University alumnus Clayton L. Mathile and his wife Mary Ann Mathile have pledged $5 million plus an additional $5 million in matching funds for the construction of science education and research facilities on the ONU campus. The new building (more than 90,000 sq. feet) will house classrooms and offices for mathematics and statistics, biology and chemistry laboratories for student-faculty research, and classrooms and laboratories for the clinical laboratory sciences, forensic science and the new baccalauereate nursing programs. Construction has started November 2007 as expected to be complete in the Spring of 2009.
