Charles and Virginia Mitchell

Virginia Mitchell’s last will and testament provides for the creation of the Charles William Mitchell, BSEE ’49, scholarship fund for students attending Ohio Northern University. Virginia made this provision in her will because her late husband, Chuck, “wanted to establish a scholarship at Ohio Northern for deserving students.”

She explains, “The reason he volunteered in World War II was so that if he survived he could go to college on the GI Bill. He knew an education would give him and his family a better life. He was so proud of his electrical engineering degree, and it opened a whole new successful world for him.” Virginia is providing for the Ohio Northern scholarship by a special provision in her will to honor her late husband and to help deserving students find their own direction in life.

After graduating from ONU, Chuck worked for IBM for 32 years. He ultimately was promoted to director of IBM’s European Customer Engineering Operations and lived in Paris, France. Chuck passed away in November 2000.
