“Bronco Buster” (1895)

Remington’s first and most famous work, “Bronco Buster” represents his initial attempt at sculpture. While very similar to “Wooly Chaps” (1905), “Bronco Buster” haunted Remington throughout his career. Featuring a wild stallion balanced on its back two hooves, “Bronco Buster” initiated the themes of freedom, refusal to submit, and the eventual end of the western lifestyle that are characteristic of Remington’s work.
