Budget Director
Under the direct supervision of the vice president for financial affairs, this newly created position will develop and overseethe University's annual operating budget in a Banner environment.
The budget director functions at a policy level in preparing the annual operating budget and at a hands-on level in monitoring and overseeing daily budgetary activity.
- Monitor historical operating expenditure levels
- Research and forecast necessary future expenditures
- Prepare the University's annual operating budget
- Monitor and assist various departments with their budgets
- Develop multi-year revenue and expense projections
- Develop financial models pertaining to new and anticipated University initiatives
- Conduct financial analyses and forecasts
- Make budgetary recommendations and decisions concerning departmental operations, services and activities
- Establish budgetary policies and procedures
- Regularly communicate with a variety of persons at all levels, from departmental support staff to senior leadership
- Handle delicate relationships and complex situations
- Obtain the cooperation of others
- Over time, become proficient in Office of the Controller operations to facilitate serving in a back-up capacity
Required Skills
- Proficiency in Banner (an SCT Sungard database product)
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Attention to detail in a multitasking environment
- Proficient in Excel
- Commitment to serving other departments; finding a way to be helpful
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline
- Minimum of 5 years higher education budgeting experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters degree or willingness to begin work on a Master's Degree
