Athletic Training Majors to Participate in iLead Program

Two Ohio Northern athletic training students will be among those traveling to Washington, D.C., as part of the National Athletic Trainers' Association's (NATA) inaugural iLead Student Leadership Program Feb. 21-23. Jenn Kinsley, a junior from North Olmsted, Ohio, and Courtney Overstreet, a senior from Fayetteville, Ohio, were chosen to represent ONU in the program.

Engineering Student Chosen for SAE Leadership Program

Mike Neal, a junior mechanical engineering major from Shreve, Ohio, was one of the 24 students chosen by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) International to participate in its fifth-annual Leadership Development Program.

SAE International, a global association that consists of more than 121,000 engineers and related technical experts, conducted the leadership program Jan 21-23 in conjunction with its Section Officers Leadership Seminar in Orlando, Fla.

Student's Video Honored at Sparky Awards

Christopher Wetzel, a senior accounting major from Strongsville, Ohio, was recently recognized for his participation in the second-annual Sparky Awards. The awards are a nationwide contest organized by SPARC (the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition) that calls on entrants to creatively illustrate the value of sharing ideas in a short video.

Wetzel's entry, an animated short titled "Brighter," won him second runner-up honors. He, along with another runner-up, won $500 for his entry.

Ohio Northern Student Awarded Third Place in National Art Scholarship Competition

Stephanie RaderOhio Northern University senior Stephanie Rader was recently awarded third place in the prestigious Kappa Pi International Art Honorary scholarship competition.

Stephanie, who is majoring in art/art education, submitted a portfolio containing five works to a selection committee at the national office in Mississippi.

A native of Mt. Cory, Ohio, Stephanie is proud to have been chosen for the award.

Students stay 'Up 'til Dawn' for St. Jude

UTDCameron Mooney is 4 years old. He is like most 4-year-olds in that he loves candy, rolling around on the floor, and being constantly in motion. But one thing makes Cameron different from most children his age: he has already battled cancer.

Cameron, from Bluffton, Ohio, was a patient at St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., where he was treated for acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

ONU Hosts Mock Trial Invitational Tournament

Mock trialOhio Northern played host to the third-annual Polar Bear Invitational Mock Trial Tournament at the ONU Pettit College of Law Jan. 17-18. A total of 46 teams from 34 colleges and universities in 13 states participated in the tournament, with teams traveling from as far away as California, Florida and Mississippi to compete.

Pharmacy Majors Put Knowledge into Practice

Catherine TaylorFifth-year pharmacy majors Catherine Taylor and Samantha Cunningham understand the importance of putting their clinical knowledge into practice. Taylor, from Powell, Ohio, and Cunningham of Adena, Ohio, proved their pharmaceutical prowess in Ohio Northern University's Clinical Skills Competition. Not only did they win the local competition, they secured a spot at the National Clinical Skills Competition in Orlando, Fla.

ONU Law Students Travel to Iceland

Iceland law exchangeSix Ohio Northern law students recently traveled to Reykjavik, Iceland, as part of the Ohio Northern College of Law's Icelandic Legal Exchange Program. While there, they toured a jail, the Supreme Court, and the parliament building.

Pharmacy Students Visit Lexi-Comp

Lexi-Comp field trip Sixteen ONU pharmacy students along with Dr. Sekhar Mamidi, assistant professor of pharmacy practice and an advisor of the American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists, visited Lexi-Comp in Hudson, Ohio, on Friday, Jan. 19.

Lexi-Comp, according to its Web site, is "an industry-leading provider of drug information and clinical content for the health care industry."

Entrepreneurs Pitch Ideas

Ohio Northern University's Collegiate Entrepreneur's Organization presented the Winter 2009 Idea Pitch Competition on Wednesday, Jan. 21, in the Dicke Forum.

This contest gave burgeoning entrepreneurs the opportunity to pitch ideas and concepts for new businesses, technologies or products. Through the support of the Kern Family Foundation, cash prizes of $200, $100, and $50 were awarded to the winning ideas.
