Lloyd Butler, music director of the Ohio Northern University Symphony Orchestra, has been invited to guest conduct the Julian Carillos Symphony Orchestra in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, on Nov. 7, 2009.

Ohio Northern University engineering and computer science students will participate in the 34th annual IBM-sponsored Association for Computing Machinery International Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM-ICPC). ONU will send six students to the University of Cincinnati to participate in the regional competition on Oct. 31.

Tens of thousands of students from 83 countries and six continents will compete in regional competitions around the world. The top 100 teams from these regional contests will qualify to advance to the World Finals in Harbin, China, Feb. 1-5, 2010.

The Ohio Northern University chapter of Habitat for Humanity is looking to volunteer time through projects in and around homes in Ada and the surrounding communities.

Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner will speak at Ohio Northern University's Pettit College of Law in the Moot Court room at noon on Tuesday, Oct. 27.

The event is free and open to the public.

Brunner, who took over her duties in 2007, is the first woman to serve as Ohio's secretary of state. Prior to being elected to her current position, Brunner served as legislative counsel for the secretary of state's office and spent time as a Franklin County Common Pleas Court judge. She has more than 13 years of election law private practice experience.

Ohio Northern University will present its 15th annual continuing education seminar for estate, business and financial planning professionals in the Pettit College of Law moot court room (129) on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.

Ohio Northern University presents "Katrina: the K Word" in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts' Stambaugh Studio Theatre from Oct. 28-31 at 8 p.m. and on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 at 2 p.m. There will be a pre-show discussion on Oct. 28 at 7:15 p.m.

Ohio Northern University will host a fall open house for high school seniors on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 8:45 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Students will learn about specific Ohio Northern programs, meet with current students, faculty and staff, attend informational financial aid sessions, and receive an overview of admissions for each of ONU's individual colleges.

The Ohio Northern University Wind Orchestra presents "Wind Music of Yesterday and Today" at the Freed Center for Performing Arts on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 8 p.m. A pre-show discussion is at 7:15 p.m.

"Wind Music of Yesterday and Today" includes works of the early 20th-century British masters Gordon Jacob and Percy Grainger, along with contemporary works by Philip Sparkes and Richard Rodney Bennett.

Ohio Northern University's Freed Center for the Performing Arts presents "Children's Turtle Day," a day of theatre, education and fun, on Saturday, Nov. 7.

The Ohio Northern University music department presents the Marching Band-O-Rama 2009 in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday, Nov. 8, at 4 p.m.

Known as the "Star of Northwest Ohio, " the marching band will perform music from their 2009 programs, "That 60s, 70s, and 80s Show" and "Sketches of Spain." "That 60s, 70s, and 80s Show" includes music from the movies "Rocky" and "Back to the Future." The show also includes music from the late Michael Jackson.
