Wind Orchestra presents 'Wind Music of Yesterday and Today'

Wind MusicThe Ohio Northern University Wind Orchestra presents "Wind Music of Yesterday and Today" at the Freed Center for Performing Arts on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 8 p.m. A pre-show discussion is at 7:15 p.m.

"Wind Music of Yesterday and Today" includes works of the early 20th-century British masters Gordon Jacob and Percy Grainger, along with contemporary works by Philip Sparkes and Richard Rodney Bennett.

Music Department Presents Marching Band-O-Rama 2009

The Ohio Northern University music department presents the Marching Band-O-Rama 2009 in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday, Nov. 8, at 4 p.m.

Known as the "Star of Northwest Ohio, " the marching band will perform music from their 2009 programs, "That 60s, 70s, and 80s Show" and "Sketches of Spain." "That 60s, 70s, and 80s Show" includes music from the movies "Rocky" and "Back to the Future." The show also includes music from the late Michael Jackson.

Outstanding Business Alumna Honored

The Ohio Northern University James F. Dicke College of Business Administration presented Cheryl (Burcham) Cotner with the Outstanding Service Award on Saturday, Oct. 10.

The award, given annually at Homecoming, honors individuals who have provided sustained and outstanding service to and whose contributions have positively impacted the College of Business Administration and Ohio Northern. This is the second year that the Distinguished Alumni Awards have been presented by the college.

ONU Students Compete in Idea Pitch Competition

Ohio Northern University's Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization staged its fall 2009 Idea Pitch Competition on Oct. 28.

Callie Crum, a junior communication arts major from Cardington, Ohio, captured first place. She collected $200 for her first place idea, an Ohio Northern recycling work study program.

ONU Presents Saudi Day

Ohio Northern University presents "Saudi Day at ONU" on Nov. 4 to recognize the partnership between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Ohio Northern and celebrate the successful beginning of the ONU Prison Management Certificate Program.

This event is sponsored by students of the program in conjunction with ONU students from Saudi Arabia.

Roger Pilon, Ph.D., J.D., director of the Cato institute, will discuss "How Constitutional Corruption has led to Ideological Litmus Tests for Judicial Nominees" in Ohio Northern University's Pettit College of Law Moot Court Room (129) on Thursday, Oct. 29, at 11:30 a.m.

Free and open to the public, the presentation is sponsored by ONU's Federalist Society.

Iraq’s Past, Present and Future

Umar A. Sulayman, the ESL (English as a second language) instructor for Ohio Northern University's prison management certificate program, will speak in ONU's Dicke Forum on Nov. 3, at 7 p.m.

Sponsored by the Phi Beta Delta International Forum, Sylayman's presentation is called "Baghdad and Iraq: Past, Present, and Future."

ONU Music Director to Conduct Julian Carillos Symphony Orchestra in Mexico
