ONU to Compete in IBM-sponsored Collegiate Programming Contest

Ohio Northern University engineering and computer science students will participate in the 34th annual IBM-sponsored Association for Computing Machinery International Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM-ICPC). ONU will send six students to the University of Cincinnati to participate in the regional competition on Oct. 31.

Tens of thousands of students from 83 countries and six continents will compete in regional competitions around the world. The top 100 teams from these regional contests will qualify to advance to the World Finals in Harbin, China, Feb. 1-5, 2010.

ONU Announces October Open Houses

Ohio Northern University welcomes high school seniors to campus for a series of three October open houses beginning on Oct. 3. Prospective students will learn about specific Ohio Northern programs, meet with current students, faculty and staff, and attend informational admissions and financial aid sessions. A complimentary lunch and campus tour will also be provided.

On Oct. 3, The T.J. Smull College of Engineering will hold open houses along with the ONU Performing and Visual Arts Open House. Registration for all events begins at 9 a.m.

ONU Receives Grant to Bolster Entrepreneurship in Engineering

The Kern Foundation has awarded Dr. J.D. Yoder, Ohio Northern University professor of mechanical engineering, a KEEN III grant to expand ONU's entrepreneurship efforts directed at undergraduate engineering students of the T.J. Smull College of Engineering.

The $75,000 grant will fund "The ONU Engineering Experience: 2005-2015," whose primary goal is to develop the College of Engineering with an entrepreneurial mindset.

T.J. Smull College of Engineering Re-accredited

Ohio Northern University's bachelor's degree programs in civil, computer, electrical and mechanical engineering have been re-accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET Inc., and the computer science program was accredited for the very first time by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET Inc., the recognized accreditor of college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering and technology. ABET accreditation demonstrates a program's commitment to providing its students with a quality education.

ONU to Host Fuel Cell Technology Forum

The Ohio Fuel Cell Coalition (OFCC), in conjunction with the Ohio Northern University T. J. Smull College of Engineering and the Ohio Energy and Advanced Manufacturing Center, will conduct a fuel cell forum at The Inn at ONU on Friday, Aug. 21, at 9 a.m.

Concrete Canoe Floats to Victory at National Competition

The Ohio Northern University concrete canoe team secured 13th place overall in the American Society of Civil Engineers’ 2009 national competition in Tuscaloosa, Ala., June 11-13. The team of 14 qualified for the national competition after winning first place overall at the regional competition at Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Mich., in April. Competing teams traveled from across the United States and parts of Canada to the national event.

ONU Baja Team Ranks 17th at Regional Competition

Ohio Northern University’s Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Baja team placed 17th overall at the regional Baja SAE® competition held June 11-14. The team also took 9th in the endurance portion of the competition. 100 teams traveled from across the globe, including the United States, Canada, North Korea, El Salvador and Mexico to Burlington, Wis., for the event.
