Ribbon Cutting and Dedication Slated for the Mathile Center for the Natural Sciences

Ribbon-cutting at the Mathile CenterOhio Northern University will hold a ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony for the new Mathile Center for the Natural Sciences at 4 p.m., on Friday, Oct. 16.

The student-centered academic research and learning facility blends hands-on teaching excellence with advanced technology in a functional modern environment.

Yale Professor in the Practice of Green Chemistry to Speak

Dr. Paul T. Anastas will be the featured guest speaker during the 2009 Keiser Distinguished Lectureship in Life Sciences in Ohio Northern University's Freed Center for the Performing Arts at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 5.

Anastas' topic will be "Green Chemistry, From Here to Sustainability."

ONU Teams with Kroger to Offer Flu Shots, Health Screenings

Seasonal flu shots and health screenings will be offered as part of the Ada Harvest and Herb Festival, provided by Kroger Pharmacy and Ohio Northern University's Rudolph H. Raabe College of Pharmacy, nursing program and The James F. Dicke College of Business Administration.

These health services will be offered from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 19, in the atrium of James F. Dicke Hall on South Main Street in Ada.

ONU Named 2009 Tree Campus USA University by Arbor Day Foundation

Tree Campus USAThe Arbor Day Foundation has honored Ohio Northern University as a 2009 Tree Campus USA university for its dedication to campus forestry management and environmental stewardship.

Ohio Northern is the second institution in Ohio to be named a Tree Campus USA campus or university and among a handful in the nation, joining such institutions as Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech.

ONU Student Honored by U.S. Department of Energy

Ohio Northern University student Michalena Grosshans, a senior biology major from Idaho Falls, Idaho, won third place at the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science 2008 Science and Energy Research Challenge.

Grosshans garnered third place for her bioforensic methods of detecting Brucella abortus, a bacterium that causes Brucellosis in wildlife and can be used as a biowarfare agent. The prize includes a $1,000 scholarship. She participated in the Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship program at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL).

Students Attend GIS Day

GIS Day participantsOn Dec. 11, 2008, 29 ONU students from two sections of the Introduction to GIS (Geographic Information Systems) class attended the 2008 GIS Day at Rhodes State University in Lima, Ohio.

GIS Day is an event held annually in more than 80 countries around the world, with the hope of demonstrating to students and professionals the real-world applications of geographic information systems.

Medicinal Chemistry Seminar to Deal with Cancer Treatment

Ohio Northern University will host a medicinal chemistry seminar Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. in the Meyer Hall of Science's annex room 105.

Tara Rheault, Ph.D., an oncology medical chemistry researcher with GlaxoSmithKline at Research Triangle Park in North Carolina, will be the speaker. Her topic is "Potent and Selective Inhibitors of Polo-Like Kinase (PLK1): Novel Anti-mitotic Agents for the Treatment of Cancer."
