Ohio Northern University to Host U.S.-Japan Summer Camp

U.S. high school students will have the opportunity to learn Japanese, experience Japanese culture and earn college credit at the U.S.-Japan Summer Camp, scheduled from July 19 through Aug. 1 on the Ohio Northern University campus in Ada.

Limited to 20 students (high school freshmen through seniors), the camp is dedicated to fostering scholarship, enhancing language skills and promoting cross-cultural understanding. In addition to academic coursework, students will take part in cultural dinners, discussions and field trips.

ONU Model UN Team Travels to New York City

The ONU Model United Nations Team represented the country of Zimbabwe at the National Model United Nations Conference in New York City from April 7 until April 12.

Students Present Papers at Regional Conference

Ten students from Ohio Northern's History, Politics and Justice Department presented papers on March 21 at the Phi Alpha Theta Ohio Regional Conference in Dayton.

Thirty-four Colleges to Compete in Mock Trials

More than 540 students from 13 states will compete in the third annual Polar Bear Invitational Mock Trial Tournament in the Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law Jan. 17-18.

The ONU undergraduate mock trial chapter and ONU Department of History, Politics and Justice sponsor the event.

History Class Tours Football Factory

Wilson Football Factory Tour

On Nov. 12, 2008, Dr. Russ Crawford's Football in American Culture class (HIST 462) visited the Wilson Football Factory in Ada, Ohio.

The students had the opportunity to see how the footballs are made, and learned that all of the NFL's balls, as well as 50 percent of Division I and 70-80 percent of Division III balls, are made here in Ada.

Election GIS Exercise

Nine Ohio Northern University students participated in a recent exercise designed to simulate an election GIS (Geographic Information System). During the recent presidential election, most news agencies relied on similar systems that tabulate and automatically display election results. ONU's simulation emphasized the creation and implementation of the GIS, as well as its implications to the media, political parties and analysts.

Students to Discuss Experiences at Republican, Democratic Conventions

Ohio Northern University students will be holding a panel discussion to talk about their experiences at the 2008 Democratic and Republican National conventions at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11 in the James F. Dicke College of Business Administration Dicke Forum.

The students had the opportunity to get an inside look at how the conventions were planned, put together and produced. They also had access to prominent politicians, members of the media and delegates from across the United States.

'The Presidential Election, Presidential Electors and the Constitution'

A panel discussion on the U.S. Constitution will be held on Sept. 17 in Ohio Northern University's Freed Center for the Performing Arts. The event will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be moderated by ONU Professor of Law Scott Gerber.

Panel presenters are Doug Chapel, a senior in political science from Parma, Mich.; Kelly Morman, a sophomore in political science from Monroeville, Ohio; Adam Schwiebert, a sophomore in political science from Hamler, Ohio; and Ben Wollet, a senior in history from Strongsville, Ohio.

Ohio Northern to Host Conference on Climate Change

Ohio Northern University students and faculty are invited to take part in the Conference on Global Climate Change, scheduled for Saturday, April 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Dicke Forum.

The conference is sponsored by Northwest Ohio International Affairs Conference (NOIAC), which is made up of Bluffton University, Defiance College, Heidelberg College, Ohio Northern University, Tiffin University and the University of Findlay.
