ONU Presents Saudi Day

Ohio Northern University presents "Saudi Day at ONU" on Nov. 4 to recognize the partnership between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Ohio Northern and celebrate the successful beginning of the ONU Prison Management Certificate Program.

This event is sponsored by students of the program in conjunction with ONU students from Saudi Arabia.

ONU Prepares Prison Management Program for Saudi Arabian Professionals

Ohio Northern University will begin a two-year prison management certificate program this summer for prison administrators from Saudi Arabia.

Ohio Northern will offer 30 prison management professionals, who already have bachelor's degrees and training, the opportunity to study the English language and criminal justice in Ohio Northern University's Department of History, Politics and Justice.

Study Links Burglary Reduction to Increase in Alarms Systems

Seungmug Lee, Ph.D., ONU visiting assistant professor of criminal justice, is author of a study that finds residential burglar alarm systems decrease crime. Researchers at the Rutgers University School of Criminal Justice in Newark, N.J., analyzed five years of crime data provided by the Newark Police Department.

Senior Chosen to Attend Prestigious Violent Crime Behavior Seminar

Carissa Stinson, a criminal justice and psychology double major from Perry, Ohio, has been chosen to take part in the prestigious Violent Crime Behavior training seminar in Manassas, Va., from June 8-19.

The seminar is presented by the Academy Group Inc., a forensic behavioral science company that helps local and federal agencies with consulting, training, research and investigation. Former FBI profiler Roy Hazelwood, whose work in behavior profiling helped to establish the FBI Behavioral Science Unit (BSU) at Quantico, Va., will conduct the seminar.

Thirty-four Colleges to Compete in Mock Trials

More than 540 students from 13 states will compete in the third annual Polar Bear Invitational Mock Trial Tournament in the Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law Jan. 17-18.

The ONU undergraduate mock trial chapter and ONU Department of History, Politics and Justice sponsor the event.

Students Attend GIS Day

GIS Day participantsOn Dec. 11, 2008, 29 ONU students from two sections of the Introduction to GIS (Geographic Information Systems) class attended the 2008 GIS Day at Rhodes State University in Lima, Ohio.

GIS Day is an event held annually in more than 80 countries around the world, with the hope of demonstrating to students and professionals the real-world applications of geographic information systems.

Ohio Northern Hosts ‘Disparity in Sentencing’ for Diversity Forum

The Black Law Students Association at Ohio Northern University will host the ninth annual Diversity Forum on Feb. 7 at 11 a.m. in the College of Law's Moot Court Room.

The forum's topic will be "Disparity in Sentencing in the Criminal Justice System" and will include speakers with backgrounds in law, criminal justice and political science.

ONU Honor Students Hold Mock Supreme Court Hearing

An Ohio Northern University Honors Seminar on appellate advocacy will culminate with students presenting oral arguments before a "mock" U.S. Supreme Court from 6 to 9 p.m., on Monday, May 1 in Room 129 of the ONU College of Law.

Paul C. Giannelli, Weatherhead professor of law at Case Western Reserve University, is speaking on "Trends in the Admissibility of Scientific Evidence in Criminal Cases" in the Ohio Northern University's Pettit College of Law moot court room (129) on Thursday, March 8 at 11:30 a.m.

The event is free and open to the public. This is the final speaker in the Dean's Lecture Series for 2006-07.
