Entrepreneurship: Be Your Own Boss

BossThe fundamentals of entrepreneurship will be presented to students through a series of structure activities. Covering a variety of topics complemented by structured activities, the team-taught course will require participants to select a business concept and develop a business plan. Students will be placed in an environment constructed to resemble a business skunk-works.

Facility

Your experience of creating a new business will occur in Dicke Hall, home of the College of Business Administration. Dicke Hall is a new state of the art facility featuring the latest in resources, computing facilities, and group work space needed to build a successful entrepreneurial venture. The Institute will be housed in a Start-Up Center, a space configured like a start-up business office. Three field trips will expose you to entrepreneurship in small and large companies.

Faculty

Robert E. Kleine, III, Ph.D. is Associate Professor of Marketing at the College of Business, Ohio Northern University. He holds a BSBA from the University of New Hampshire and a Ph.D. in Marketing from the University of Cincinnati. His research is published in the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Consumer Psychology, Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Sciences, Advances in Consumer Research, and Research in Consumer Behavior. He frequently presents at national conferences. In addition, to consulting activities, Kleine has started and operates two businesses.

James W. Fenton, Jr., Ph. D. is a Professor of Management and the Dean of the College of Business Administration at Ohio Northern University. He is a graduate of the University of Toledo's College of Business Administration where he received his BBA and MBA degrees. He also has a Ph.D. in Business Administration with a second area in Law from the University of Iowa. Dr. Fenton has over 15 years of academic experience. He has been recognized as an outstanding teacher and scholar, having published over 20 peer-reviewed publications, including Business Horizons, Employment & Labor Law Quarterly, Healthcare Management Review, Journal of Small Business Management, Labor Law Journal, and SAM Advanced Management Journal. In addition to his academic experience, fully one-half of Fenton's career has been as an entrepreneur. He has owned and operated four small manufacturing companies, the largest with annual revenues of up to $25 million and employment up to 125 employees. All of these businesses were in steel and stainless steel manufacturing, processing and distribution.

Rob Lydic is one of two founding partners in Structured Innovations LLC, a telecommunications manufacturer's representative firm that covers a six state region representing eight premier manufacturers. Structured Innovations has 10 employees with 7 to 27 years experience in the telecommunications industry representing the company in major markets throughout the Midwest. After its founding in March of 2001, Structured Innovations has grown sales for their manufacturers upwards of $30 million. Rob has been a member of Entrepreneurs Organization (EO), Columbus Chapter, since November of 2003 and has served on several entrepreneurial leadership panels at The Ohio State University's Fisher College of Business. Rob graduated in 1997 from Ohio Northern University with a Bachelor's of Science in Environmental Science and Biology, and attended graduate school at Texas State University in Higher Education Administration. Rob currently serves on the Board of Advisors for the Ohio Northern University College of Business.

John-David Yoder, Ph.D, is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Ohio Northern University, with a Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame. He has previously served as President of a small research and consulting firm, and as a Proposal Engineering Supervisor for a major automotive supplier. His research areas focus on robotics, information processing, and engineering education. He has published in journals, books, and presented papers at a variety of international, national, and regional conferences while at ONU. He teaches courses at all levels of the curriculum.
