Men's, Women's Cross Country squads to open 2010 seasons Sept. 4 at Dayton Challenge

ADA — The Ohio Northern men's and women's cross country teams will open up their 2010 schedules Sept. 4 at the Dayton Flyer 5k Challenge.

The Polar Bears, under second-year head coach Jason Maus, will also compete at Bowling Green, Calvin (Mich.), Furman and Oberlin in invitational meets during the regular season.

Five Polar Bears earn Academic All-OAC for Women's Cross Country/Track & Field

ADA — Three members of the Ohio Northern women's cross country and track & field teams have been named Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference, while two others have been named Honorable Mention Academic All-OAC as selected by the OAC faculty athletic representatives.

Seniors Janelle Jansen, Brittany Farber and Rachel Smith all earned Academic All-OAC, and senior Rebecca Silverstein and sophomore Nicole Hope were both Honorable Mention Academic All-OAC.

Freshman Alison Steinbrunner named OAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year

ADA — Ohio Northern freshman Alison Steinbrunner (New Carlisle/Tecumseh) was named the 2009 OAC Women’s Cross Country
Runner-of-the-Year.

Steinbrunner became the first ONU women’s cross country runner to win the OAC individual title with a time of 21:54.32 at this season's OAC Championships.

At the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional, Steinbrunner placed sixth (22:17) out of 231 runners to represent ONU at the NCAA Championships.

At the National meet, she placed 261st (25:30) out of 280 runners.
