Gales leads Women's tennis at ITA Regional Tournament

GREENCASTLE, Ind. — Freshman Christie Gales posted four victories to lead the Ohio Northern women's tennis team at the ITA Regional Tournament at DePauw (Ind.) Fri.-Sun.

Gales went 2-2 in singles play and teamed with freshman Kaitlyn Super to post a 2-2 record at doubles to pace the Polar Bears.

The tournament format is single-elimination, with a colsolation tournament for those eliminated in the first round.

LIMA - The Ohio Northern women's tennis team nearly defeated Northwestern Ohio but fell 6-3 to the Racers Saturday morning on the campus of Northwestern Ohio.

The Polar Bears move to 1-1 on the year after beating St. Francis (Ind.) 9-0 earlier in the week.

Junior Liz Bajusz was perfect on the day, winning both at No. 2 single and No. 1 doubles.

ADA -- The Ohio Northern women’s tennis team won its first match of the year 9-0 over St. Francis (Ind.) in its home opener Thursday evening in the ONU Fieldhouse.

The Polar Bears are now 1-0 overall while the Cougars move to 2-7 overall on the season.

OBERLIN — The Ohio Northern women's tennis team opened its 2009-10 season at the Oberlin Invitational Friday-Sunday.

The meet was non-scoring.

Junior Liz Bajusz and freshman Ashley Bonamer combined to win a doubles match, as did freshmen Kaitlyn Super and Christie Gales.

In singles play, Super and freshman Jenny Provost each posted victories.

Women's Tennis team receives Scholar All-America honor from ITA for 7th consecutive year

ADA — The Ohio Northern women's tennis team has been recognized as a 2009 Scholar All-American Team by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

This marks the seventh consecutive year the Polar Bears have won the honor undr eighth-year head coach Scott Wills.

The women on the tennis team achieved an impressive 3.84 GPA in the spring 2009 quarter, the highest GPA in program history.
