Women's Soccer will look to earn trip to NCAA Tournament in 2009

ADA — The 2009 Ohio Northern women’s soccer team will be looking to win its first OAC Tournament Championship and earn a trip to the NCAA Tournament under the tutelage of sixth-year head coach Mark Batman.

After finishing the 2008 season with a 14-6-1 and its second consecutive OAC Tournament final exit, the Polar Bears are hungry for the title.

“We have the OAC Championship in our sights,” said Batman. “A tournament championship is what the team has been talking about since last November, and they are determined.”

Women's Soccer announces talented 2009 recruiting class

ADA — Beginning his sixth year at the helm, women's soccer head coach Mark Batman has announced the 2009 recruiting class for the Ohio Northern women's soccer program.

The Polar Bears welcome 11 incoming freshman to the team, including four defenders, three forwards, two midfielders and two goalkeepers.

These freshman will join the 17 returners from last year's squad which ended the season with a record of 14-6-1 overall and 7-2-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

ADA —  The Ohio Northern women's soccer team will open its 2009 schedule on Sept. 1 at area-rival Defiance.

The Polar Bears will open the home portion of their schedule on Sept. 4-5 when they host the Ohio Northern Classic at the ONU Soccer Field with matches against Kalamazoo (Mich.) and Calvin (Mich.)

Northern will also host Hope (Mich.), Mount Saint Joseph and Denison in non-conference action.

Four Women's Soccer players earn All-Ohio honors

ADA - Four members of the Ohio Northern women's soccer team have been selected to the 2008 NCAA Division III Women's All-Ohio Team.

Junior Kaitlin Sanders was the lone member to earn First Team All-Ohio honors, while seniors Katie Schaadt and Erin Stapp both were Second Team and senior Kristin Reininger earned Third Team.

ADA - Junior Kaitlin Sanders and seniors Katie Schaadt and Erin Stapp have been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Great Lakes Region Team for the Division III level.

Sanders was named First Team, Schaadt was named Second Team and Stapp was named Third Team.

This is the second time that Sanders has been named NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region, as the midfielder was selected Second Team a season ago.
