Ryan Paul, Luke Miller named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District

ADA — Senior tennis player Ryan Paul (West Milton/Milton-Union), and sophomore wrestler Luke Miller (Indiana, Pa.) were named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV At-Large for the 2008-09 seasons in voting conducted by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Paul was a First Team selection and Miller was a Second Team honoree.

Paul, a management/sports management major, is also a two-time Academic All-OAC honoree and is a three-time All-Conference honoree.

Wrestling to open 2009-10 schedule November 22 at Buckeye/Keystone Challenge

ADA —  The Ohio Northern wrestling squad with open its 2009-10 schedule on Nov. 22 at the Buckeye/Keystone Challenge in Columbus.

The Polar Bears will host five events in 2009-10 under 21st-year head coach Ron Beaschler, beginning  Dec. 5 with the annual ONU Invitational at the ONU Sports Center.

Northern will also host dual meets with Mount Saint Joseph on Dec. 15, Wilmington on Jan. 12, Muskingum on Jan. 19 and Baldwin-Wallace on Feb. 2.

Three Wrestlers named Scholar All-America for 2008-09

ADA — Three Ohio Northern wrestlers were named Scholar All-Americans by the National Wrestling Coaches Association for 2008-09.

Senior David Penny, junior Jeff Penny and sophomore Luke Miller all received the honor.

The Polar Bears also finished fifth nationally and earned Scholar All-America Team designation.

David Penny won the 2007 Ohio Athletic Conference crown at 125 pounds and ended his career as a two-time All-OAC honoree and two-time national qualifier.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Ohio Northern sophomore Luke Miller earned All-America honors with a fourth place finish in the 157-pound weight class at the 2009 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships Friday-Saturday at the US Cellular Center.

Miller (32-9) finished with a 3-2 record in first appearance at the NCAAs.

NEW CONCORD -- Sophomore Luke Miller won the OAC championship at 157 to advance to the NCAA National Championships and earned Wrestler of the Year honors at the 2009 Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Saturday at Muskingum's Rec Center.
