Three newcomers score double figures as Women's Basketball defeats Transylvania (Ky.) 65-62 in season opener

HANOVER, Ind. - Three Polar Bears scored in double figures to lead the Ohio Northern women's basketball team to a season-opening 65-62 victory over Transylvania (Ky.) Saturday evening on Day 1 of the Sodexo Classic hosted by Hanover (Ind.).

Women's Basketball selected No. 7 in OAC Preseason Coaches Poll

ADA — The Ohio Northern women's basketball team has been selected to finish in seventh place in the Ohio Athletic Conference as voted on by the league's 10 head coaches in the OAC Preseason Coaches Poll that was released on Wednesday.

The Polar Bears received 35 points in the voting.

No. 22 Capital is the preseason favorite to win the OAC, earning 79 points and seven first-place votes, while Wilmington is picked to finish second with 69 points and two first-place votes.

ADA — The Ohio Northern women's basketball team will open its 2009-10 schedule Nov. 21-22 at the Hanover (Ind.) Tip-Off Tournament.

The Polar Bears, under 10th-year head coach Michele Durand, will open both the home and the Ohio Athletic Conference portion of their 2009-10 schedule on Dec. 5 against Heidelberg at 3 pm at the ONU Sports Center.

Alisha Rinehart and Kara Dysert earn All-Ohio Athletic Conference accolades

ADA - Senior Alisha Rinehart and freshman Kara Dysert have both earned All-Ohio Athletic Conference accolades in women's basketball, as selected by the 10 conference head coaches for the 2008-09 season.

Rinehart was named Second Team All-OAC, while Dysert was both Honorable Mention All-OAC and OAC Freshman of the Year.

The two players were Ohio Northern's top-two scorers on the season, with Rinehart averaging 17.9 ppg and Dysert averaging 11.4 ppg.

BEXLEY - Senior Emily Culbertson became the all-time steals leader with 181 and Kara Dysert had a career-high 14 rebounds, but Ohio Northern’s women’s basketball could not get past the No. 1-seeded Capital as the Crusaders won 53-40 Wednesday night at the Capital Center.
