    ADA —  The Ohio Northern softball team will get its 2010 schedule underway March 1 at the National Training Center Games in Clermont, Fla.

    The Polar Bears are coming off their best season in program history in 2009, when they went 39-6, were ranked No. 6 nationally, won the Ohio Athletic Conference Regular Season and Tournament titles and advanced to the NCAA Division III World Series.

    ADA — The Ohio Northern coaching staff was named the Central Region Coaching Staff of the Year by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

    Head coach Annette Shepherd and assistant coaches Jeremy Shepherd, Les Bowman and Jamie Snee guided the Polar Bears to a 39-6 record and a trip to the NCAA Division III World Series in Montclair, N.J.

    ADA — Ohio Northern junior All-American Liz Decima (Freedom, Pa./Ambridge) has been nominated as a candidate for the Collegiate Women's Sports Awards 2008-2009 Division III Athlete of the Year.

    Decima, a shortstop on Ohio Northern's No. 4-ranked softball team, is one of 11 finalists for the award, which will be announced June 22 at Columbia University in New York City.

    She represents the sport of softball and was nominated as the top athlete in her sport by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

• Won 2009 NCAA III Tournament Greencastle Regional

• Finished 2009 season ranked No. 6 nationally
