Ryan Smith, Chris Corrado named Academic All-OAC in Men’s Soccer

ADA — Senior Ryan Smith (Miamisburg) and junior Chris Corrado (Cincinnati/Saint Xavier) were named Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference in men’s soccer for 2008 in voting conducted by the league’s 10 faculty advisors.

Smith was also named First Team All-OAC and OAC Defender of the Year earlier this season.

A biology/pre-med major, Smith is anchoring the ONU defense from the center back position that has allowed only 18 goals all season while dishing out two assists as well.

WHEATON, Ill. — Freshman Christian Huelsman scored two goals, including the match-winner with 29 seconds left in the second overtime, to lead Ohio Northern over Carroll (Wis.) 2-1 Saturday night in the second round of the NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Tournament at Joe Bean Stadium.

WHEATON, Ill. -- Nate Bascom had his first career hat trick Friday night, leading Ohio Northern past No. 17-ranked Wheaton (Ill.) 4-1 in the first round of the NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Tournament at Joe Bean Stadium.

Six Men's Soccer players earn All-OAC accolades

ADA — Six members of the Ohio Northern men’s soccer team were awarded All-Ohio Athletic Conference recognition, including three First Team, one Second Team and two Honorable Mention selections.

Senior Ryan Smith was the most recognized Polar Bear, being named First Team All-OAC as well as OAC Defender of the Year.

Smith has anchored the ONU defense that has allowed only 16 goals from the center back position all season while dishing out two assists as well.

Men’s Soccer to make its second trip to NCAA Tournament

ADA — The Ohio Northern men’s soccer team will be making its second NCAA Division III Tournament appearance in the last three seasons, opening up against host No. 17 Wheaton (Ill.) on Friday.

With a win over Wheaton, the Polar Bears will then face either Wittenberg or Carroll (Wisc.) on Saturday.
