Men's Soccer ready to make run in NCAA Tournament for the third time in four seasons in 2009

ADA — Although the Ohio Northern men’s soccer team will be without 11 lettermen from a season ago, the Polar Bears return 14 lettermen, including six starters, that made a deep run into the 2008 NCAA Tournament.

Head coach Brent Ridenour enters his 12th season in the position and has led ONU to the NCAA Tournament in both 2006 and 2008, the only two times in school history.

Ryan Smith and Katie Weininger named Ohio Northern's Clyde Lamb Award winners for 2008-09

ADA — Ohio Northern seniors Ryan Smith (Miamisburg) and Katie Weininger (Sycamore/Mohawk) have been named Ohio Northern's Clyde Lamb Award winners for the 2008-09 school year.

The Clyde Lamb Award is given to the top senior male and female student-athletes at each of the 10 Ohio Athletic Conference schools each school year.

ADA — The Ohio Northern men's soccer team will begin its run for a second consecutive OAC title and NCAA Tournament berth in 2009 when it begins its 2009 schedule Sept. 1 at Manchester (Ind.)

The Polar Bears will also travel to the Roanoke (Va.) Tournament Sept. 4-5 and will open the home portion of their schedule Sept. 15 against Wittenberg at the ONU Soccer Field.

Men's Soccer player Ryan Smith receives NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

ADA - Men's soccer senior Ryan Smith has been awarded one of the NCAA's Postgraduate Scholarships in recognition of his outstanding achievements as a scholar and a student-athlete.

Smith is a biology major who will be attending medical school upon graduation.

The NCAA awards up to 174 postgraduate scholarships annually, 87 for men and 87 for women.

ADA — Four players from the 2008 Ohio Northern men’s soccer team earned All-Ohio honors as well as head coach Brent Ridenour earning the All-Ohio Coach of the Year award.

Seniors Ryan Smith and Adam Ross as well as freshmen Christian Huesman and Nate Bascom were name All-Ohio.

Smith was awarded First Team All-Ohio honors for the first time in his career.

He is the third player in the Ohio Northern men’s soccer history to garner such an honor.
