Men's Basketball sees OAC Tournament run end in semifinals with 63-58 loss to No. 11 Capital

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS -- Ohio Northern saw its Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament run come to an end in the semifinal round as No. 11-ranked Capital knocked off ONU 63-58 Friday night at John Carroll's DeCarlo Varsity Center.

The third-seeded Polar Bears end their season with an 18-9 record, while the second-seeded Crusaders advance to the finals with a 24-3 mark.

21 Ada fourth graders complete Reading with Coach Coleman program

ADA — Twenty one Ada Elementary School fourth graders in Susan Stuart's reading class successfully completed the Reading with Coach Coleman program in 2009.

Ohio Northern head men's basketball coach Jeff Coleman and three of his players met with the students to administer the program. Through Reading with Coach Coleman, students are encouraged to earn 75 points by passing Reading Counts quizzes.

ADA – The Ohio Northern men’s basketball team defeated Marietta 62-52 Wednesday night in the quarterfinals of the 2009 Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament at the ONU Sports Center.

The Polar Bears improve to 18-8 overall while the Pioneers finish their season at 12-14 overall.

ALLIANCE – Kyle Meyer poured in a career-high 37 points to help lead the Ohio Northern men’s basketball team past Mount Union 100-99 in double overtime Saturday afternoon to finish out both team’s regular seasons.

The Polar Bears improve to 17-8 overall and 12-6 in the Ohio Athletic Conference while the Purple Raiders fall to 12-13 overall and 6-12 in the OAC.

NEW CONCORD - Despite five players being in double-figures, the Ohio Northern men’s basketball team lost 75-71 at Muskingum Wednesday night.

ADA – Despite a career-high 23 points for junior Ezra Bradshaw, the Ohio Northern men’s basketball team came up short on Senior Day as they lost to #14 Capital 68-64 Saturday afternoon at the ONU Sports Center.

The Polar Bears move to 16-7 overall and 11-5 in the Ohio Athletic Conference while the Crusaders better their record to 20-3 overall and 13-3 in the OAC.

WILMINGTON – The Ohio Northern men’s basketball team defeated Wilmington 72-67 on the road Wednesday night at Fred Raizk Arena.

Junior Kyle Meyer had game-highs with 20 points and eight rebounds with sophomore Sam Bastian having 18 points as well.

The Polar Bears improve to 16-6 overall and 11-4 in the Ohio Athletic Conference while the Quakers fall to 14-8 overall and 10-5 in the OAC.

ADA – The Ohio Northern men’s basketball team committed 31 turnovers while only forcing 16 in an 84-77 loss to John Carroll Saturday afternoon at the DeCarlo Varsity Center.

ADA – The Ohio Northern men’s basketball pulled out a 71-63 win at home over Otterbein Wednesday night in the ONU Sport Center.

Junior Kyle Myer led ONU with team-highs in points and rebounding with 17 and seven respectively.

The Polar Bears improve their record to 15-5 overall and 10-3 in the Ohio Athletic Conference while the Cardinals move to 3-17 overall and 1-12 in the OAC.

Ohio Northern junior Kyle Meyer named OAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for third time this season

ADA — Ohio Northern junior post Kyle Meyer (Columbus Grove) was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 26-Feb. 1.

Meyer led the Polar Bears to the victories over Heidelberg and Baldwin-Wallace last week.

He averaged 23.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game and shot 65.5 percent from the floor in the two ONU victories.

Meyer scored 23 and grabbed five rebounds in a 94-88 overtime win over Heidelberg on Wednesday.
