Troy Rothenbuhler accepts offer as assistant football coach at Ohio Northern

Troy Rothenbuhler has accepted a position as an assistant football coach at Ohio Northern, effective July 1, 2009.

Rothenbuhler will serve as offensive coordinator and will coach the quarterbacks for the Polar Bears.

“I am very excited to get started at Ohio Northern, Rothenbuhler said. “I am looking forward to stepping into a winning program. I’m excited to work with Head Coach Dean Paul, his staff and to being working with the outstanding student/athletes at ONU.”

Devin Russell named Assistant Football Coach at Ohio Northern

ADA — Former Ohio Northern standout Devin Russell is returning to his alma mater as an Assistant Football Coach at Ohio Northern University.

He will coach the offensive line.

Russell returns to ONU after coaching stints at John Carroll and NCAA Division I-AA Morehead State.

He served as graduate assistant at Morehead State in 2008, coaching the offensive line.

Russell was also the assistant offensive line coach at John Carroll in 2006 and 2007.

Football plans 14 practices during spring ball April 24-May 16

ADA — The ONU football staff has announced their 2009 spring practice schedule.

The Polar Bears will hold 14 practices from April 24-May 16.

These practices will be non-padded and non-contact per NCAA rules and regulations.

If you would like to attend a practice, please call (419-772-2518) the football offices to make sure changes have not been made due to the weather. 

The spring schedule will conclude with the annual “Day with ONU Football,” which includes a free youth clinic and passing scrimmage. 

Football team to open 2009 season Sept. 5 at home against North Central (Ill.)

ADA — The Ohio Northern football team will kick off its 2009 season on Sept. 5 at Dial-Roberson Stadium with a contest against North Central (Ill.)

The Polar Bears will also host defending national champion Mount Union on Sept. 19, Heidelberg on Oct. 10 as part of Homecoming Weekend, John Carroll on Oct. 24 and Baldwin-Wallace on Oct. 31 as part of Senior Day festivities.

ADA — A Polar Bear is rejoining the professional football ranks.

Current Ohio Northern assistant football coach and head women's golf coach Stacey Hairston has accepted a job as defensive backs coach for the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League.

Hairston is returning to the CFL, where he played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders from 1990-92 prior to his 3-year stint with the Cleveland Browns from 1993-95.
