No. 18 Otterbein holds off No. 9 Football 38-36 on rainy day in Westerville

WESTERVILLE -- No. 18 Otterbein held off No. 9 Ohio Northern 38-36 on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.

The Polar Bears fall to 1-2 overall, 0-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Cardinals improve to 3-0, 2-0.

Trailing 35-17 late in the third period, the Polar Bears rallied for three touchdowns in the final 18 minutes of the game, but the Cardinals held on for a 38-36 victory.

ADA --  Top-ranked Mount Union scored on three of its final four possessions to break a 10-10 tie and post a 30-10 Ohio Athletic Conference football victory over No. 7 Ohio Northern Saturday afternoon at Dial-Roberson Stadium.

The Polar Bears fall to 1-1 overall (0-1 Ohio Athletic Conference), while the Purple Raiders improve to 2-0, 1-0.

With the midway point behind them, the Argos are about to enter their most important stretch of the season.  As they reflect on a much-needed win over the rival Hamilton Tiger-Cats last Friday night, there is no doubt who the club’s biggest playmaker on offence is.  In an organization that has thrived on the passing game with a rotation of gifted receivers over the last half-decade, it is now a running back that is hogging the spotlight.

ADA — Ohio Northern opened its 2009 season in impressive fashion, defeating No. 4-ranked North Central (Ill.) 28-19 Saturday afternoon at Dial-Roberson Stadium.

The Polar Bears won their season opener for the 13th time in the last 16 seasons and is now 5-1 in home openers at Dial-Roberson Stadium.

The Cardinals fall to 0-1.

2009 Polar Bear gridders hope to continue where they left off in 2008

The Ohio Northern football team hopes to pick up in 2009 where it left off in 2008.

The Polar Bears finished strong last year, winning five of their last six games to finish third in the Ohio Athletic Conference, their 13th consecutive upper-division finish.

Something the ONU faithful hope is different from last season is the slow start, when Northern dropped its first four games.
