BEXLEY -- Kyle Simmons ran for a career-high 113 yards and three touchdowns, leading No. 17 Ohio Northern to a 31-21 victory at No. 13 Capital Saturday afternoon at Bernlohr Stadium.

The Polar Bears improve to 7-2 overall after their sixth consecutive victory and are 6-2 in Ohio Athletic Conference play, while the Crusaders fall to 6-3, 5-3.

Four Polar Bears named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV in Football

ADA — Four Ohio Northern student/athletes were named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IVin football for 2009 in voting conducted by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Senior offensive lineman Rick Ingold (Newark) was a First Team selection, while junior quarterback Kyle Simmons (Orrville), junior defensive back Eric Wenzler (Springboro) and junior H-Back Evan Elliott (Green) were Second Team picks.

By being a First Team honoree, Ingold is now on the Academic All-Ameirca ballot.

Wyant, Heaphy named OAC Football Players of the Week

ADA — Ohio Northern seniors Jeremy Wyant and Jake Heaphy were named Ohio Athletic Conference Football Players of the Week for their efforts in ONU's 49-6 win over Baldwin-Wallace on Saturday.

Wyant was named the Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career, while Heaphy was named the Special Teams Player of the Week for the third consecutive week and for the eighth time in his career.

Football moves up two spots to No. 17 in ninth weekly D3Football.com poll

ADA — The Ohio Northern football team moved up two spots to No. 17 in the ninth weekly D3Football.com poll, released Sunday night.

The Polar Bears (6-2 overall, 5-2 Ohio Athletic Conference) were ranked No. 19 last week and moved up after posting a 49-6 victory over Baldwin-Wallace on Senior Day Saturday.

ONU was ranked No. 7 in the second weekly poll after their 28-19 victory over then-No. 4 North Central (Ill.) on Sept. 5.

ADA — No. 19-ranked Ohio Northern got dominating performances from its offense, defense and special teams units and rolled to a 49-6 Ohio Athletic Conference football victory over Baldwin-Wallace Saturday on Senior Day at Dial-Roberson Stadium.

The Polar Bears improve to 6-2 overall and are 5-2 in OAC action after posting their fifth consecutive victory, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 2-6, 2-5.
