Wieland, Robinson lead ONU to split with Heidelberg

TIFFIN — Sophomore Drew Robinson extended his hitting streak to eight games and senior pitcher Drew Wieland picked up a complete game victory as the Ohio Northern baseball team split a doubleheader with Heidelberg on Tuesday at Peaceful Valley.

Wieland threw all seven innings, giving up only one run to lead ONU to a 4-1 victory in Game 1. Heidelberg scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth to take Game 2, 11-7.

The Polar Bears moved to 12-18 overall and 4-6 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Student Princes moved to 23-6 overall and 9-3 in the OAC.

Sankovich tosses sixth complete game as ONU Baseball earns split with JCU

ADA — Led by a strong pitching performance from senior Mark Sankovich, the Ohio Northern baseball team captured a 4-2 victory over John Carroll in Game 1 of a doubleheader on Monday at Wander Field before dropping Game 2, 10-3.

The Ohio Athletic Conference games were originally scheduled for Saturday, but weather delays pushed the game to Monday.

The split moved the Polar Bears to 11-16 overall and 3-4 in the OAC, while the Blue Streaks move to 15-7 overall and 6-3 in the OAC.

Wilmington tops Ohio NOrthern 2-1, 8-5 in OAC twin-bill

ADA — Senior Drew Wieland increased his strikeout total to an OAC-best 53, but the Ohio Northern baseball team dropped a pair to Wilmington on Wednesday at Wander Field.

With the losses, the Polar Bears fell to 10-16 overall and 2-4 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Quakers improved to 7-10 overall and 3-5 in the OAC.

Wieland struck out nine in 5 2/3 innings, while giving up only one walk and three hits, but two unearned runs by Wilmington in the sixth ruined his great start as the Quakers took the opener, 2-1.

Offensive eruption leads ONU to OAC doubleheader sweep of Baldwin-Wallace

BEREA — The Ohio Northern baseball team defeated Baldwin-Wallace 8-1 in Game 1 and 8-5 in Game 2 to earn its first Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep on the road since 2002 on Friday at Heritage Field.

The Polar Bears improved to 10-14 overall and 2-2 in the OAC, while the Yellow Jackets dropped to 9-9-1 and 2-4 in the OAC.

Northern’s last doubleheader sweep in the conference occurred on April 20, 2002 at Muskingum.

Seven Polar Bears had a multi-hit game, with sophomores Greg Gibbons and Drew Robinson collecting a two hits in both games.

Aselage 3-for-4 but ONU Baseball falls to Defiance 8-6

ADA — Defiance used a strong pitching performance from Aaron Stewart to take an 8-6 decision from the Ohio Northern baseball team Tuesday afternoon at a windy Wander Field.

The wind, gusting up to 40 miles per hour at times, made every batted ball an adventure.

Defiance improves to 4-9 on the season as ONU falls to 8-14.

Stewart pitched a solid seven innings, allowing three runs, two earned, while striking out eight to improve his record to 1-1 on the season.

ONU drops double header to Mount Union in OAC opener

ADA — The Ohio Northern baseball team dropped a pair of games to Mount Union in the Ohio Athletic Conference openers for both teams on Saturday at Wander Field.

Paul Mariotti pitched a complete game four-hitter for the Purple Raiders in a 6-3 MUC victory in Game 1.

In Game 2, Mount Union withstood a ninth-inning ONU charge to hold on for a 7-6 victory.

The Purple Raiders improved to 9-5 overall and 2-0 in the OAC, while the Polar Bears dropped to 8-13 and 0-2 in the OAC.

Hill pitches complete game shutout as ONU earns split with Manchester (Ind.)

ADA — Led by strong pitching performances from junior Brian Hill and sophomore Drew Robinson, the Ohio Northern men’s baseball team split a double header with Manchester (Ind.) on Thursday at Wander Field.

Hill pitched a complete game shutout to pick up his first victory of the season, 6-0, in Game 1 for the Polar Bears (8-11), while the Spartans (11-8) scored runs in the fourth and fifth innings to win Game 2, 2-1.

Sankovich earns fourth win in Baseball's split with Bluffton

ADA — The Ohio Northern baseball team not only battled Bluffton, but also a strong wind in a double header split Tuesday afternoon at ONU’s Wander Field.

The Polar Bears (7-10) took game one by a score of 8-4 and Bluffton (6-9) pounded out 12 hits in an 11-6 game two victory.

ONU senior Mark Sankovich, bidding for his fifth complete game of the season, went 6 2/3 innings in game one, giving up five runs on seven hits and picked up the win to improve his record to 4-1 on the season. Will Gerber (1-2) took the loss for the Beavers, allowing seven runs on seven hits in five innings.

Aselage's game winning single earns ONU a split with St. Francis (Ind.)

ADA — On a cold, breezy day at Wander Field, the Ohio Northern baseball team battled St. Francis (Ind.) to a double header split Friday afternoon.

The Cougars (5-15) used a solid pitching performance from Marc Gillig (1-0) to take game one 5-1 but the Polar Bears (6-9) battled back from two different three-run deficits to pull out a 7-6 victory in game two in their last at-bat.

Brandon Aselage singled through a drawn-in infield to score freshman Adam Grof for the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh to earn the Polar Bears a split.

Robinson homers twice, leads ONU Baseball to split at Manchester (Ind.)

NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. — Ohio Northern sophomore Drew Robinson homered in each game of ONU's double header split with Manchester (Ind.) Thursday afternoon at Gratz Field.

The Polar Bears (5-8) pounded out 12 hits on way to posting an 8-4 victory in game one. Game two was a pitchers dual that saw the Spartans (6-7) push a run across in the bottom of the seventh for a 2-1 victory.
