Brian Hill named OAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week

ADA — Ohio Northern senior Brian Hill (Fairborn/Carroll) was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 16-22.

Hill threw a three-hit shutout, striking out 10, as Ohio Northern defeated Davenport (Mich.) 4-0 in game one of a doubleheader sweep on Saturday at Wander Field.

This marks the second time in his career that Hill has received Pitcher of the Week honors, as he also earned the award on March 31, 2008.

ADA -- Erik Stegman smashed a walk-off grand slam, capping a 8-run seventh inning rally in the nightcap, to lead the Ohio Northern baseball team to a sweep of Davenport (Mich.) Saturday afternoon at Wander Field.

The Polar Bears improve to 8-7 on the season, while the Panthers fall to 19-6.

Baseball splits double header with Cedarville

ADA -- Ohio Northern and Cedarville split a non-conference double header Thursday afternoon at Wander Field.

The Polar Bears (6-7) won the nightcap 6-5, while the visiting Yellow Jackets (12-9) won the opener 5-3 in eight innings.

Greg Gibbons finished the day 3 for 5 to lead the Ohio Northern offense.

FRANKLIN, Ind. -- Drew Robinson hit a 2-run home run and Cody Fisher and Brett Katana combined for a shutout as the Ohio Northern baseball team blanked Adrian (Mich.) 3-0 Sunday afternoon in the Tri-State Classic at Franklin High School.

FRANKLIN, Ind. -- The Ohio Northern baseball team fell to Adrian (Mich.) and Franklin (Ind.) Saturday afternoon at the Tri-State Classic.

The Polar Bears (4-5) fell to Adrian 12-1 in the first game and dropped a 10-3 decision to host Franklin in the nightcap.

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- The Ohio Northern baseball team wrapped up its 2009 spring break trip with a double header sweep of Anna Maria (Mass.) on Saturday.

The Polar Bears (4-3) won the opener 12-0 Saturday morning, then took game two 5-4 Saturday afternoon. Tha Amcats wrap up their spring break trip with a 3-7 mark.

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Ohio Northern baseball team scored four runs in the first and three runs in the ninth but could not pull off the victory, as No. 22 Thiel (Pa.) defeated the Polar Bears 12-8 at Lake Myrtle Park Friday afternoon.

Northern falls to 2-3 on the season, and Thiel improves to 6-1 on the year.

Matt Hampshire (4) Erik Stegman (3) and Loren Fleischman (1) drove in the eight Polar Bear runs.

Katana, Hampshire lead Baseball in 17-9 loss to Misericordia (Pa.)

AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- Brett Katana and Matt Hampshire had solid days at the plate to lead the Ohio Northern Baseball team in a 17-9 loss to Misericordia (Pa.) Wednesday afternoon at the Lake Myrtle baseball complex.

The Polar Bears fall to 2-2, while the Cougars improve to 4-4.

Matt Hampshire blasted his first home run of the season in the bottom of the fourth frame, scoring Katana, to pull Northern within 12-4.

KISSIMMEE -- Ohio Northern kicked off its 2009 baseball season with a solid 7-2 victory over Widener (Pa.) Monday afternoon at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex.

The Polar Bear are 1-0, while the Pride improves to falls to 1-3.

Justin Miller (1-0) was dominating on the mound for ONU, allowing only two hits and striking out 10 in 6 2/3 innings of work to earn the victory.
