Wrestlers open 2008-09 campaign with 2-2 record at Olivet Duals

OLIVET, Mich. --  The Ohio Northern wrestling team opened its 2008-09 season with a 2-2 record at the Olivet (Mich.) Duals Saturday afternoon.

The Polar Bears defeated Mount Saint Joseph 24-11 and Thiel (Pa.) 25-9 and fell to No. 8-ranked Wisconsin-Stevens Point 28-8 and Trine (Ind.) 26-16.

Joe Fisher, Luke Miller, Billy Painter, Jeff Penny and David Penny each posted 3-1 records on the day for Ohio Northern.

Fisher wrestled at heavyweight, Miller was at 157, Painter was at 165, Jeff Penny was at 133 and David Penny was at 125.

In the season opener, against Stevens Point, David Penny won by decision over Joe Mileski 7-5 and Miller got a 17-2 tech fall over Dan Wierzba.

ONU won five of the final six bouts to break a 6-6 tie in the victory over MSJ. 

Against Trine, Northern led 9-0 after a David Penny decision and a Jeff Penny pin, but the Thunder would win six of the next seven weight classes to post the victory.

Northern's 25-9 win over Thiel was similar to its win over MSJ, in that the Polar Bears broke an early 6-6 tie buy winning five of the final six weight classes.

Ohio Northern will return to action Dec. 2 at Mount Saint Joseph.
