Wrestlers move to 3-1 in OAC action with 37-8 victory at Baldwin-Wallace

BEREA  — The Ohio Northern wrestling team got back-to-back-to-back pins and went on to post a 31-8 Ohio Athletic Conference victory at Baldwin-Wallace Tuesday night at Ursprung Gymnasium.

The Polar Bears improve to 10-11 overall and are 3-1 in OAC action, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 2-19, 0-5.

Joe Spooner, Mick Letcher and Luke Miller each collected pins at 141, 149 and 157 pounds to give Ohio Northern a 24-0 lead after the first five weight classses.

Spooner pinned Grant Steward at 5:36, while both Letcher and Miller were able to pin their opponents in under two minutes. Letcher at 1:15 over Tim Levitsky and Miller at 1:42 over Scott Haber.

Bryan Dobransky (285) capped off the night with a pin over Terence Haynes at the 3:22 mark.

The Polar Bears earned four of their eight wins by fall.

The Penny brothers started the night off with two victories by close decisions. At 125, David secured a 4-1 decision over Jeremy Dombrady.

Jeff Penny provided one of the most exciting matches of the night with an 11-10 decision over Brian Bucher at 133.

With the match tied at 10-10 going into the third period, Jeff was able to escape from Bucher, earning a point and the victory.

Drew Michel (197) also won by decision, winning 10-5 over Ryan Tudor.

Matt Alexander (184) earned a victory by major decision 14-5 over Korey Leonhard.

After not scoring in the first period, Alexander went on a roll taking a 5-1 lead into the third period before scoring nine points in the third to seal the victory.

The Polar Bears will return to action on Friday and Saturday at the Wheaton (Ill.) Invitational.
