ADA -- The Ohio Northern wrestling team won the six matches of the night to build a 23-0 lead and went on to defeat Mount Union 23-16 Tuesday night at the ONU Sports Center.

The Polar Bears improve to 11-11 overall and 4-1 in Ohio Athletic Conference action, while the Purple Raiders fall to 3-4, 2-2.

David Penny started off the night with a win over Justin Toth at 125. Penny used nine near fall points to power his way to the 13-3 major decision.

At 133 Jeff Penny was able to earn a victory over T.J. Arnone. Penny was able to pin Arnone at 3:27 to give the Polar Bears an early 10-0 lead.

"We wrestled calculated tonight," ONU head coach Ron Beaschler said. "We were reserved in practice last night, which worried me. I didn't know how we were going to come out. But we got the job done and came away with a nice OAC victory."

Joe Spooner used a first period takedown to gain the 3-2 decision over Josh Cintron at 141.

Mick Letcher (149) extended Northern's lead to 17-0 with an 8-0 major decision over Sean Dreger.

Luke Miller (157) used two takedowns to earn the decision over Bryan Skoff 6-0.

At 165 Billy Painter used a two point near fall in the third period to gain the 6-4 decision over Mike Manypenny.

The Polar Bears will wrap up their regular season schedule with a 7:30 pm match next Tuesday against No. 23-ranked John Carroll at the ONU Sports Center.
