Women's Swimming tops Olivet, falls at DII Hillsdale in tri-meet

HILLSDALE, Mich – The Ohio Northern women’s swimming and diving team defeated Olivet (Mich.) and fell to Division II Hillsdale (Mich.) in a non-conference tri-meet at the McAvoy Natatorium at Hillsdale on Friday night.

The Polar Bears defeated Olivet 147-94 and fell to Hillsdale 122-106. Hillsdale also topped Olivet 124-90.

Ohio Northern moves to 3-2 overall, while the Chargers improve to 4-2 overall and the Comets fall to 0-3 overall.

Senior diver Terri Lynn Shigle posted the only individual Polar Bear win, leading the 1-meter diving with a score of 245.15.

Sophomore Kaitlyn Early also had a productive day for Ohio Northern, with two second-place finishes and a fourth-place finish as well.

Early finished the 500 free with a time of 5:35.71. Sophomore teammate Rori Thomas finished third in 5:46.74.

The other second-place finish for Early came in the 200 breast, which she completed in 2:39.14. Freshman Mackenzie Hoffman was just seven hundredths of a second behind, finishing third in 2:39.21.

Early also finished the 200 free in 2:04.46, good for fourth in the race.

The 400 free relay team of senior Jillian Huber, junior Cassandra Fennell and sophomores Sarah Fiffick and Alison Garbash added an Ohio Northern victory, winning in 3:55.26.

The Polar Bears will swim next on Friday, when they travel to Springfield to take on Wittenberg in a non-conference dual meet at 6:30 pm.
