Women's Soccer knocks off No. 7-ranked Wittenberg 2-1

ADA ­­— Seniors Jennifer Klag and Erin Stapp both scored off assists from Angie Pisut to lead the Ohio Northern women’s soccer team to a 2-1 victory over No. 7-ranked Wittenberg Wednesday afternoon at the ONU Soccer Field.   

The Lady Polar Bears improve to 4-2-1, while the Tigers suffer their first lost of the season and fall to 4-1-2.

Klag scored the match’s first goal at the 12:07 mark of the first half off a center pass from Pisut at point blank range.

Stapp followed in the second half off annother assist from Pisut, beating the goalie off the right post to make it 2-0 with 38:12 left in the match.

Sara Pirozzi scored off a centering pass from Lauren Johnson to put Wittenberg on the board with 23:44 remaining.

“The important thing is, when one of you didn’t think you could keep going the other one was there,” Ohio Northern head coach Mark Batman said. “We played well enough and are very happy with the win but we are not satisifed. We still have room for improvement.”       

Wittenberg out shot Ohio Northern 15-9 and won the corner kicks battle 10-5.

ONU goalie Lauren Roberts made seven saves, while Jordan Bamberger had three for WU.

The Polar Bears will return to action next Wednesday at 7 pm against No. 21-ranked Dennison.
