Women's Golf makes Round 2 charge to finish in second place at Purple and White Invitational

LOCKBOURNE - Sophomore Ashley Johnson fired an 88-82=170 and tied for third place to lead No. 17 Women's Golf team to a second-place finish at the 17-team Purple and White Invitational hosted by Capital on Friday and Saturday at Foxfire Golf Club.

After being in fourth place with a score of 375 in Round 1, ONU rebounded with a round of 345 to finish only behind Bethel (Ind.) which shot 348-330=678.

Bethel's Kara Ballinger, Katie Powell and Brooke Gilbert went 1, 2, 3 to lead the champions.

Ohio Athletic Conference rival Otterbein finished three strokes behind ONU to finish in third place.

Junior Kaylea Thresher shot 10 strokes better in Round 2, finishing in eighth place at 94-84=178.

Junior Megan Russell finished tied for 12th and freshman Emily Gedert finished in a tie for 19th to round out the Polar Bear scoring.

Russell shot 95-89=184, while Gedert shot 98-90=188.

The Polar Bears will next be in action on Thursday when they host the Lady Polar Bear Invitational at Colonial Golfers Club.
