Women's Golf finishes sixth at Allegheny (Pa.) Invitational

MEADVILLE, Pa. - The Ohio Northern women's golf team finished in sixth place of nine teams at the Allegheny (Pa.) Invitational played at The Country Club of Meadville Thursday afternoon.

The Polar Bears finished with 357 strokes on the par 73, 5,385-yard course and are now 24-8 on the season.

Host Allegheny took the team title with 316 strokes, with Walsh (322) and Gannon (Pa.) (343) finishing in second and third, respectively.

Junior Ashley Johnson and sophomore Emily Gedert each fired a score of 88 to tie for 24th and lead ONU. Gedert went 44-44--88, while Johnson went 43-45--88.

Junior Mindy Russell (t31) and senior Kaylea Thresher finished a stroke apart, as Russell shot 49-41--90 and Thresher shot 48-43--91.

Senior Terri Lynn Shigle was the final finisher for Ohio Northern's 'A' team, finishing in a tie for 38th with a 48-46--94.

The low Polar Bear round of the day came from the ONU 'B' team, as senior Megan Russell tied for 18th and shot a 44-41--85.

Russell's 85 is her best round of the season.

Ohio Northern will compete in its final fall tournament of the season this weekend at the Wittenberg Fall Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
