Women's Golf 12 strokes back and in second place after Round 1 of OAC Championships

WEST LAFAYETTE - The Ohio Northern women's golf team is in good position, sitting in second place after Round 1 of the Ohio Athletic Conference Championship hosted by Muskingum at River Greens Golf Club.

The Polar Bears are 12 strokes back with a total of 349 on the day. Defending champion Otterbein is in the lead with 347 strokes.

Sophomore Ashley Johnson was the best Polar Bear on the day as she is tied for second, shooting 44-40--84.

Johnson is looking to better her OAC Championship performance of a year ago when she finished in sixth place as a freshman.

Junior Kaylea Thresher and freshman Emily Gedert are also currently in the top 10, ending Round 1 in a tie for seventh and a tie for ninth, respectively.

Thresher fired a 41-46--87, while Gedert went 46-42--88.

Sophomore Mindy Russell finished just out of the top 10 with a 45-45--90. She is in 12th place.

Ohio Northern will look to win its second OAC Championship in three years tomorrow during the final round of play. Tee times begin at 9 am.
