Women's Cross Country team finishes 5th at Akron Invitational in season opener

AKRON
— The Ohio Northern women's cross country team opened its 2009 season by finishing fifth in the 5,000-mile course in the Tommy
Evans Invitational at University of Akron.
The Polar Bears (0-4) finished with 88 points in the field made up entirely of NCAA Division I teams.
Akron finished first with 50 points, Youngstown State finished second with 56 points, Kent State was third with 70 points and Buffalo was fourth with 79 points.
Freshman Alison Steinbrunner finished tenth out of 57 runners in a time of 19:40.
Senior Rachel Smith and sophomore Mallory Bloom finished 15th and 18th, respectively, in times of 20:21 and 20:39.
Senior Steph Hiser finished 21st in 20:46.
Freshman Ashton Dennon, sophomore Katie DeAngelis and junior Amy
Davis finished the scoring for the Polar Bears with 24th, 25th, and
26th place finishes in times of 20:48, 20:49, and 20:51.
Both the men’s and women’s teams will be competing next Saturday, September 12, at the Bowling Green Invitational.
