Women's Basketball drops first ever meeting with Northwestern Ohio 73-57

LIMA - Northwestern Ohio defeated the Ohio Northern women's basketball team 73-57 in the first ever meeting between the schools Tuesday evening at The Garage.

The Polar Bears are now 4-4 as the Racers improve to .500 on the year with a 5-5 record.

Senior Tricia Fuller had career-bests with five assists and two blocks while recording a season-high six points.

Senior Alisha Rinehart led Northern with 20 points and a season high six rebounds, while freshman Kara Dysert had 10 points and three steals on the night.

The Polar Bears continued to shoot well from the free throw line, going 10-of-12 on the night.

Rinehart got the Polar Bears on the board first with a short jumper, but UNOH scored the next nine points to take an early 9-2 lead just 3:40 into the game.

Northern was able to get within one point at 16-15 before the Racers went on an 8-2 run thanks to two 3-pointers and an uncontested layup.

The Polar Bears again brought the lead within two point after a jumper by Fuller and a 3-point bucket by Emily Culbertson, but UNOH used another 8-2 run to push the lead to 32-24 with under four minutes left in the half.

Each team scored four more points to end the half, as the Racers entered intermission with a 36-28 lead.

Rinehart kept the Bears in the contest with 13 first half points, going 5-of-7 from the field.

Over the first six minutes of the second half, UNOH kept the momentum and took a 16-point lead 49-33.

Freshman Ericka Holcomb capped off a 9-2 ONU run with a pair of free throws to cut the lead to single digits at 51-42.

The Racers again had an answer to the Northern run taking a 60-46 advantage with 7:30 to go.

UNOH outscored ONU 13-11 in the end of the game to come to the final score of 73-57.

The Polar Bears will travel to John Carroll to continue with Ohio Athletic Conference play on Saturday at 3 pm.
