Weininger and Schnelle named Academic All-OAC

By Steven Wright
ADA — Senior Katie Weininger and junior Liz Schnelle have both been named Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference as members of the No. 8-ranked Ohio Northern volleyball team.
Each is a double major at ONU, as Weininger’s majors are public relations and sport management and Schnelle’s are accounting and finance.
Weininger is leading the Polar Bears in assists as the team’s setter for the third consecutive season. This year she has dished out 1,337 assists and currently ranks third all-time with 4,596 over her career.
She has also been a huge offensive threat for the Polar Bears this season, tallying 176 kills and a .353 hitting percentage.
Schnelle has been a force at the middle hitter position all season long with 552 kills and 103 total blocks this year.
She is just 21 kills away from tying the ONU single-season record which she set a season ago, and her 103 blocks are a career best.
Weininger and Schnelle were named Co-OAC Players of the Year, which marks the first time in OAC history that two players have shared the award.
The dynamic duo has been an integral part in the team’s school record 26-match winning streak. The previous record of 24 straight matches was held by the 1984 team.
The Polar Bears will be participating in the NCAA Championships this weekend in Bloomington, Ill. on the campus of Illinois Wesleyan.
ONU's Elite 8 match will be against Williams (Mass.) at 9:30 pm EST at the Shirk Center.
