Volleyball finishes season ranked No. 4 final Bison/AVCA Coaches Poll

ADA — The Ohio Northern volleyball team finished the 2008 season ranked No. 4 nationally in the final Bison/AVCA Division III Coaches Top 25 Poll.

The Polar Bears finished the season with a 34-5 record after advancing to the NCAA III Tournament's Final Four in Blomington, Ill.

Northern also won its ninth consecutive OAC regular season title and its third straight OAC Tournament crown.

National champion Emory (Ga.) is ranked No. 1 with all 24 first place votes and 600 points, national runner-up LaVerne (Calif.) is second with 575 points, Juniata (pa.) is third with 543 points and Ohio Northern is fourth with 538 points.

Ohio Northern defeated Westminster (Pa.), then-No. 5 Wittenberg and then-No. 3 Washington (Mo.) to win the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Tournament, then topped Williams (Mass.) in the national quarterfinals before being knocked out of the tournbament in the semifinals by eventual champion Emory in a thirlling, 5-set match.
