Travis Ballinger leads Men's Golf team at Mount Union Invitational

ALLIANCE --  Freshman Travis Ballinger fired a 79-74--153 to lead the Ohio Northern men's golf team at the two-day, 36-hole Mount Union Fall Invitational Sunday and Monday.

The Polar Bears (10-20) followed up a slow start on Sunday at the Tannenhauf Golf Course with an outstanding round Monday at the Alliance Country Club to finish ninth of 11 team with a 326-307--633.

Northern had the fourth-best round on Monday with a 27-over par 307.

Ballinger finished tied for 15th in the 85-man field.

Tom Repicky carded an 83-74--157 to finish tied for 36th, Jordan McKenzie was tied for 58th with a 79-83--162, Paul Morbitzer was tied for 64th with an 85-79--164 and Joel Metzker tied for 67th with a 85-80--165.

John Carroll won the team title with a 291-306--597, Lake Erie was second with a 302-296--598 and Otterbein was third with a 305-302--607.

JCU's Blake Ferguson won medalist honors with a 3-under par 71-68--139.

The Polar Bears will return to action on Saturday at the 36-hole Manchester (Ind.) Invitational.
