Top-seeded Mount Union edges Baldwin-Wallace 5-3 in semifinals of 2009 OAC Men's Tennis Tournament

MASON -- Top-seeded Mount Union edged No. 4-seeded Baldwin-Wallace 5-3 in the first semifinal match of the 2009 Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Tournament Friday morning at the Lindner Tennis Center.

The Purple Raiders (19-4) advance to Saturday's finals at 10 am, while the Yellow Jackets end their season at 19-4.

MUC will face the winner of Friday's second semifinal match between No. 2 seed Ohio Northern and No. 3 seed John Carroll Saturday morning at 10 am.

Mount took a 2-1 lead after doubles play, as Andy Redd and Zach Long defeated Brian Mogus and Travis Papay 8-6 at No. 2 and Alex Trzeciak and Taylor Long defeated Brian Widdoes and Alex Kearney 8-6 at No. 3

The Yellow Jackets won the first point of the match, as Jim Kucera and Matt Lachman downed Zach Perry and Grant Aronson 8-4 at No. 1 doubles.

MUC went up 3-2 before a 16-minute rain delay halted the action at 12:36 pm.

Widdoes topped Redd 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles to make it 3-1 Mount, but Burris answered with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Papay to pull BW within 3-2 before the brief rain shower halted play.

Perry downed Kucera 6-2, 6-3 shortly after play resumed to give MtU a 4-2 advantage.

Trzeciak got the Yellow Jackets back on the board with a 6-7(3), 6-4, 6-3 victory over Aronson at No. 4 singles to make it 4-3 Mount Union.

Kearney put the match away after nerly four hours of compeititon with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Bobby Irwin at No. 6 singles.
