Three Volleyball players named All-Great Lakes Region

ADA ­— Seniors Katie Weininger and Samantha Markham and junior Liz Schnelle were all named All-Great Lakes Region.

Weininger and Schnelle were both named First Team All-Great Lakes Region for the second consecutive year, while Markham was named Honorable Mention All-Great Lakes Region.

Weininger has dished out 1,337 assists on the year (11.14 a/s) and has been an offensive weapon as well with 176 kills with a .353 hitting percentage. She is ranked fourth in the nation in assists per set.

Her 4,596 assists rank her third on ONU’s all-time list.

Schnelle has continued to creep up the ONU record books, moving into fourth place with 1,623 career kills.

For the year, she has 552 kills, which is just 21 away from her own school record of 573 that she set a season ago.

She has also recorded a career-best 103 total blocks this season.

Weininger and Schnelle were also named Co-Ohio Athletic Conference Players of the Year, marking the first time that two players have shared that award.

Markham, who was a Second Team All-OAC award recipient, has had a fine offensive season with 240 kills and a .285 hitting percentage.

She is currently sixth all-time with 329 total career blocks and is ninth all-time with 64 solo blocks. Schnelle ranks eighth with 66 solo blocks.

The trio of All-Region award winners will lead the Polar Bears into the NCAA Championships this weekend in Bloomington, Ill. on the campus of Illinois Wesleyan.

ONU will begin play in the Elite 8 against Williams (Mass.) on Thursday at 9:30 EST.
