Swick wins, but No. 12 Heidelberg bests Wrestling in battle of league leaders

ADA -- Collin Swick posted a victory at 174 pounds, but No. 12-ranked Heidelberg posted a 36-3 victory over Ohio Northern in a battle of Ohio Athletic Conference wrestling front-runners Tuesday night at the ONU Sports Center.

The Polar Bears fall to 7-9 overall and 2-1 in Ohio Athletic Conference action, while the Student Princes improve to 7-3, 4-0.

Swick dominated Dayne Williams at 174 to account for the Polar Bears' scoring. Swick took an early 6-1 after the first round, and extended his lead to 8-3 after the second round.

He then used three takedowns and a two-point near fall while only allowing three escapes in the 10-3 victory.

The first match of the night was a clash between the two previous OAC champions at 125. David Penny started off with a quick 2-0 lead, and dominated the first round.

Hoxie was quick to mount a comeback and scored three points in the second round. Hoxie took a 3-2 lead into the third and didn't look back. He pinned Penny with four seconds left in the match to give the Student Princes an early 6-0 lead.

Defending OAC Champion Zach Mizer of Heidelberg defeated No. 10-ranked Luke Miller 8-3 in another of the much anticipated bouts on the evening. Mizer, who was ranked as high as No. 5 nationally this season, led 5-1 after the first round and held on for the win.

The Polar Bears will return to action Saturday at the Wabash (Ind.) Monon Bell Classic Duals.
