Strong second half helps Women's Soccer knock off Defiance 7-1

ADA - The Ohio Northern women’s soccer team scored five goals in the second half to lead the Polar Bears to victory over Defiance on Wednesday at the ONU soccer field by a final score of 7-1.

The Polar Bears record increases to 6-3-1 as the Yellow Jackets slip to 4-5-1.

Freshman Danielle Chadwick scored her third goal of the season and the only goal for Defiance in the first half at the 11:39 mark to put the Yellow Jackets ahead 1-0.

Northern then went on to score seven unanswered goals.

Ohio Northern answered with a goal a piece from junior Jamie Eiben and sophmore Natlie White to put the Polar Bears ahead 2-1 at the half.

Eiben scored on a breakaway after Kaitlin Sanders delivered a through ball, while White scored off a centering pass from Christinia Spinaris.

The Polar Bears came out strong in the second half, scoring five goals by Eiben, a Defiance own goal, Katie Kinkelaar, Christina Haley and Kim McGowan.

Eiben scored her second goal of the game off a centering pass from Angie Pisut at 68:01.

Defiance knocked in their own goal off a defender when White sent the ball into the box at the 71:18 mark.

Kinkelaar, assisted by both Spinaris and McGowan, scored after going one-on-one with the goalie.

Haley scored the first goal of her career off an assist by Kinkelaar from 20 yards out.

McGowan scored her first career goal off a centering pass from a Haley direct kick within the last minute of the game making the final score 7-1.

Defiance freshman goalkeeper Colleen Cross had 20 saves.

ONU outshot Defiance 50-7 and had eight coner kicks compared to only one for the Yellow Jackets.

“I am plesed with the result of today’s match,” said head coach Mark Batman. “A lot of girls got experience they needed today and got some good practice right before conference.”

The Polar Bears will be traveling to New Concord this Friday at 4 pm as they take on Muskingum.
