Steinbrunner shatters school record, leads Women's Cross Country at Oberlin Invitational

OBERLIN - The Ohio Northern women’s cross country team finished 12th out of 25 at the 6,000-meter course at the Inter Regional Rumble hosted by Oberlin on Saturday.

The Polar Bears (39-25) were led by freshman Alison Steinbrunner, who finished fifth out of 172 runners in a school-record time of 21:50.

She bettered the previous school record of 22:09, set by Darci Walthew in 2005, by 19 seconds.

Senior Rachel Smith and junior Amy Davis finished 62nd and 79th, respectively, in times of 23:27 and 23:45.

Sophomore’s Katie Deangelis and Kelly Casanova finished the scoring for the Bears.

Deangelis finished 83rd in a time of 23:51, while Casanova finished 84th in a time of 23:52.

The women finished the day 12th with 313 points.

No. 2-ranked Johns Hopkins won the race with 62 points, No. 13 Case Western Reserve was second with 105 points, No. 26 Oberlin was third with 128 points and No. 34 New York U. was fourth with 174 points.

ONU will compete again in two weeks at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Wilmington.
