Steinbrunner shatters ONU record as Women's Cross Country finishes 6th at Calvin (Mich.) Select Meet

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. —  Freshman Alison Steinbrunner shattered the Ohio Northern school record, leading the Polar Bears women's cross country team to a sixth place finish at the the Calvin (Mich.) Cross Country Knight Invititational on Saturday.

Steinbrunner finished the 5,000-meter course in fourth place out of 193 runners in 18:07, a full 13 seconds faster then the previous ONU record 18:20 set by Mandy Miller in 1997.

The Polar Bear women (10-10) finished in sixth with 159 points.

No. 2-ranked Calvin (Mich.) won the team title with 28 points, No. 14 Case Western Reserve finished second with 91 points and Baldwin-Wallace was third with 115 points.

Northern defeated one nationally-ranked NAIA foe, as No. 17 Spring Arbor (Mich.) was eighth with 186 points. 

Senior Rachel Smith finished 35th in a time of 19:10.6, while sophomore Kelly Casanova finished 40th in a time of 19:25.8.

Sophomore Mallory Bloom finished 52nd in a time of 19:33.4, while junior Amy Davis finished the scoring for Northern on the day with a 58th place finish in a time of 19:39.0.   

Both the men’s and women’s teams will be competing next Saturday,  at the Otterbein Invitational.
